Narc-Kenya's presidential aspirant Martha Karua has asked President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga to replace Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung'u.
Addressing the delegates after the end of a three-day party retreat in Kitengela on Tuesday, Karua said Ndung’u cannot be trusted to handle the political parties.
“We have no respect left for Ndung’u as a party because she seems to be acting for certain political bigwigs. It is time she left office as is provided in the new constitution,” Karua said.
Karua said the office of the Registrar of Political Parties is crucial and needs to be filled before the end of December when the registrar should receive names of recruited party members.
“The executive has delayed in giving the name of the new office bearer to the National Assembly for clearance. It has allowed the Public Service Commission to advertise and conceal a crucial office that should not remain vacant at this time,” Karua said.
She said the office will only be reformed by a freshly recruited person. Karua said the software system used by the registrar to check lists of party members is unsuitable.
Narc-Kenya's national executive council appointed Mwanyangela Ngali as the party's new secretary general during the retreat. Mwanyangela replaces Danson Mungatana who has decamped to The National Alliance party.
The retreat, attended by 31 top party officials to discuss “pressing issues” ahead of the March 4 elections, also appointed Erastus Kivasu as the organising secretary.
