Education stakeholders in Homa Bay have urged the government to post a principal to Ogande Girls High School.

The school has been without a head teacher for two months, following the transfer of principal Jennifer Otollo.

Otollo was transferred in January, this year when schools opened for first term. The school is being managed by the deputy principal.

On Thursday, Homa Bay Education Network coordinator Julius Omuga urged the Ministry of Education to post a new head teacher to take charge of the school’s management.

“The institution has remained without a head teacher for two months. Let the government help the school by posting a new head teacher to take over,” Omuga said.

The Ministry of Education had posted a principal to the school but she left after a contestation from ACK church and other stakeholders.

Anglican Church of Kenya in Southern Nyanza protested the transfer of Otollo, saying they were not consulted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The church, which sponsors the learning institution, argued that the transfer was done unprocedurally.

Otollo was moved to Mudavadi Girls High school in Vihiga county by TSC.

But the church wanted the principal to stay at her former school.

In a letter to TSC in January, ACK South Nyanza Bishop Simon Onyango said the principal has done a good job, including overseeing development projects at the school, and should not have been moved before the projects are complete.

“The principal has done a splendid job in the school to the satisfaction of the stakeholders. She has been overseeing the construction of the modern library sponsored by Ida Odinga,” the letter read.

Bishop Onyango also told TSC there was misleading information that the school board of management had requested the commission to transfer the principal.

Ogande Girls High School parents association chairman Moses Nyambere assured stakeholders the matter will be addressed.

“We got a communication from the school that the matter is being addressed. A new principal will be posted,” Nyambere said.

Education director Ziada Osano said a deputy principal is managing the school.

“There is no cause for alarm because all activities at the school are going on as they should as the matter is being addressed by TSC,” Osano said.
