Orengo declared he has dished out cheques worth Sh110.6 million as bursaries.

No deserving child in Siaya County will be denied a chance to access education under the watch of Governor James Orengo.

The Governor reiterated that in the spirit of his Nyalore (which translates "it is possible") administration, no deserving child will be denied the right to education in Siaya County.

"One of the pillars of Nyalore Government in education is to ensure that no deserving child Should be denied the right to access education," he said.

Orengo said this on Monday at Lundha Secondary School in Gem constituency during the launch of the distribution of cheques to students who were considered for bursaries in the county.

During the ceremony which was attended by the CEC in charge of education Dr Edgar Otumba amongst other top county government officials, the Governor announced that a total of Sh 110.6 million has been provided to needy students as bursaries by his administration.

"During the 2023/24 financial year, the county government of Siaya has allocated Sh 110.6 million towards bursaries and scholarships for bright deserving beneficiaries," Orengo said.

The governor noted that the funds will support the education of 13,081 continuing students and 5, 000 students who are joining form one.

He said the money will be distributed to various institutions of learning across the county.

Orengo at the same time used the occasion to applaud the financial institutions such as Kenya Commercial Bank ( KCB), Cooperative Bank and Equity Bank which has partnered with the county government of Siaya for the scholarship opportunities of the learners.

"In the subsequent financial year, we shall progressively allocate more funds towards Scholarships and bursaries to cater for the needs of the ever needs of the ever-increasing cases of school fees," Orengo noted.

In the Gem constituency, the Governor noted that his administration will provide Sh 19.8 million as bursaries.

"We have already hired ECD teachers on permanent terms as a strategy to boost their morale and ensure they give the best to our children," he said.

"I will be visiting all the wards to highlight what we are doing. I promise that this year, alot will be happening in terms of development," Orengo said.
