This year's Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Under-18 Boys Championships begins in Kisumu tomorrow.

The games will start on Saturday, November 25 and end on December 8.

The tournament kicks off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium at mid-day with Governor Anyang Nyong'o and Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba, the CECAFA governing Council and the Football Kenya Federation gracing the event.

They will watch the match between Somali Vs Rwanda and Kenya Vs Sudan.

According to Nyong'o, this is exciting news and a great honour to the City of Kisumu, "which is no doubt the headquarters of football in the region, having produced many local and international football stars".

Nyong'o said this is the first international tournament being held in Kisumu in many years.

"I would like to sincerely thank the Sports CS Namwamba for choosing Kisumu to host this great tournament. We shall be co-hosts with Kakamega County".

The governor noted that this honour to host the CECAFA Under 18 tournament comes at a time when they are also angling to be one of the hosts for the Africa Champions (AFCON) next year.

"I wish to take this opportunity to welcome to Kisumu all the teams participating in this tournament and their officials and assure all our guests that Kisumu is safe and their security is guaranteed," he said.

The governor also appealed to the people of Kisumu to accord a friendly welcome to all the visitors and turn up in large numbers to watch the matches and cheer our national team.
