Political newcomers upset veteran politicians to bag parliamentary seats in Kisii county.

The biggest upset was in Kitutu Chache North where newcomer, youthful Japheth Nyakundi, defeated four-term MP Jimmy Angwenyi.

Nyakundi of UDA received 11,834 votes; Angwenyi garnered 8,260 votes, while ODM’s Geoffrey Asanyo got 5,609 votes.

In Bonchari, another Charles Onchoke of UPA was declared winner. He garnered 13, 854 votes against Jonah Onkendi of ODM who got 10, 661 votes while former MP Zebedeo Opore polled 9, 777 votes.  

Flamboyant criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta of UDA garnered a paltry 3, 401 votes. Former MP Pavel Oimeke did not defend his seat after losing the ODM ticket to Johan Onkendi.

Other political newbies who were headed for victory are former Kenya Ports Authority managing director Daniel Manduku (Nyaribari Masaba) and Obadiah Barongo (Bomachoge Borabu). They are contesting on ODM ticket.

In Nyaribari Chache, Zaheer Jhanda of UDA and Anthony Kibagendi of Kitutu Chache South were headed for huge wins.

In Kitutu Masaba constituency, newcomer Clive Gisairo ODM was also headed for a huge win against incumbent Shadrack Mose while in Borabu constituency, perennial loser Patrick Osero had taken a significant lead against youthful Daniel Rogena aka Sonko.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko is the only MP in Nyamira whi is likely to be re-elected. In West Mugirango, incumbent Vincent Kemosi was defeated by Jubilee Party’s Steve Mogaka.
