Homa Bay woman stabs husband to death after quarrel over phone

The officer asked residents to use appropriate method of solving domestic disputes

Police in Homa Bay town are investigating the death of a 31-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife in a bar.

Charles Onyango died on the spot after being stabbed following a quarrel over a phone.

It is reported that Onyango went to the bar with his wife to drink alcohol on Wednesday evening.

In the course of merry-making, the two started squabbling and went physical inside the bar.

Eyewitnesses said the two engaged in a fistfight but Onyango did not know that his wife was armed with a knife.

“The woman removed the knife from her purse and stabbed Onyango in the chest,” the witness said.

Onyango who was said to be an employee of the Homa Bay County Government collapsed on the floor and bled profusely.

He succumbed to the injuries in the abdomen.

Irate residents got hold of the wife with intention of lynching her. They roughed her up before she was rescued.

Senior Chief of Homa Bay Township Location Joshua Ochogo and his fellow security officials intervened and saved her.

“The mob wanted to kill her but we saved her,” Ochogo said.

Ochogo said it seemed the couple had domestic differences.

“The couple apparently had wrangles which emanated from their home in Karachuonyo constituency. We still can’t establish the main cause of their wrangles,” Ochogo said.

The wife was detained at Homa Bay Police Station.

Homa Bay town Police Commander Sammy Koskey said they had launched investigations into the matter.

Onyango’s body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The officer asked residents to use appropriate methods of solving domestic disputes.

“We’re going to interrogate the woman to know what actually transpired and why she killed her husband,” Koskey said.
