Woman killed as fuel tanker rams into coffin shop in Nyamira

Four-year-old child and three others were injured in the accident

One person died and four others sustained injuries after a fuel tanker rammed into a house at Kebirigho town in Nyamira county on Wednesday morning.

The tanker was heading to Nyamira town when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a coffin shop.

Several shops and other houses were destroyed in the incident.

The woman who operates a shop near the coffin shop died while a four-year-old child sustained injuries.

Nyamira North Sub County Police Commander Patrick Ngeiywa said the deceased woman was trapped inside the shop.

According to Ngeiywa, the tanker was headed to Kisii from Nakuru before the accident occurred.

The injured child, his grandmother, the driver and his conductor are receiving treatment at the Nyamira County Referral Hospital.

Police officers arrived at the scene on time to control crowds that had gathered to siphon fuel from the tanker.
