Kisumu Senator Fred Outa has called for peace at Miwani Sugar Factory following an incident last week where three people were killed and several others injured.

Outa cautioned auctioneers who raided the factory in an alleged takeover.

The senator said they failed to work within the laws of the land to execute their mandate.

He condemned the killings and asked the police to probe the matter.

Outa, the deputy chairperson of the Senate Committee on Security and International relations, spoke on Sunday when he visited the factory.

“We have a police post in this area. The security officials could have been told about the matter. If it was impossible to handle it, elected leaders could have been called out to look into the matter,” he said.

The senator said the premature deaths would have been avoided if the auctioneer consulted with the security team in the county.

He said with elections approaching, the country should maintain unity and peace.

Outa said police must ensure justice prevails to the families that lost their loved ones.

“We must ensure those involved in this matter are brought to book,” he said

Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo and his Tinderet counterpart Julius Melly condemned the incident.

Koyoo who raised the matter on the floor of the House demanded to know who sanctioned the alleged takeover on Wednesday.

“We want swift action taken against those who sanctioned the takeover of the company without informing the management,” he said.
