David Ombati, a community policing officer, said Asiago was out on a drinking spree with his wife  and it was shortly after returning home  that he attacked her and the children.

The woman had sustained severe injuries in the nape while the children suffered injuries on the hands.

"We are optimistic that they will be treated and get out of hospital well," said Ombati.

He said the man hacked his wife following rumours that she had planned to leave him.

"This is the first narrative we have gotten so far. There are others however who say the man was unhappy with  the children because the wife had come with them into the marriage about four months ago," said Ombati.

County Police Commander Francis Kooli said police have launched investigations.

" So far the primary suspect has been taken into custody and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations close, "he told the Star on the phone.
