The officers from Chemelil police post together with three security officers from Mastermind Tobacco were on a mission to seize the contraband.

According to the police report, on reaching Nyakunguru the officers got into the shop of Stephen Ongere and introduced themselves and their mission.

However, the report states that Ongere's wife raised the alarm alleging they were thieves.

A mob emerged from the village and attacked the officers and the Mastermind staff and in the process, some civilians and police officers got injured.

“Members of the public burnt and vandalised the Mastermind vehicles, a Land Cruiser reg no. KAZ 788L and Toyota Corona KAP 550E”, the report read in part.

The three officers who sustained injuries were taken to Nandi Hills Subcounty Hospital, where they were treated and discharged in a fair condition.
