National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said there is need for the government to consider pumping more resources to public schools.

Muturi on Saturday said majority of Kenyans take their children to public schools as compared to private schools hence the need to have the public schools improved.

“We need to improve public schools so that children can be in friendly and well-structured places. The schools are congested and there is need for more infrastructure,” Muturi said.

The speaker spoke at Riosiago SDA Church in Gesima Ward, Nyamira county during a funds drive to aid construction of the church.

Present were Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, Senator Okong’o Omogeni, Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi and Businessman Charles Mamboleo.

He said the government should not always depend on CDF funds to complete infrastructural development in schools, saying the funds can only manage a portion of the development in the institutions.

“We have the NG/CDF funds, but I want to say the resources are not enough, hence the need for more resources to be allocated,” he said.

The speaker was rallying support in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year’s general election.

He called for Kenyans to support him, saying his time as the speaker of the National Assembly is up.

“I know I have served for two terms as the Speaker of the National Assembly which I can say is enough. I am going for the top seat and I am calling upon everyone to support me so that I rise and serve Kenyans,” Muturi said.
