Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi has condemned the killings of four grannies in Kisii County who were accused of practising witchcraft.

The lawmaker asked residents of his constituency to stop taking the law into their own hands.

Addressing journalists at Parliament Buildings, the MP urged locals to instead take suspected witches to the police.

Angwenyi further asked police officers to move with speed and arrest the remaining perpetrators.

The killings were connected to land rows.

He spoke even as police arrested two prime suspects in the murder of the four elderly persons.

Amos Nyakundi Ondiek and a male juvenile aged 18 are in police custody assisting with investigations.

They were arrested following a hunt launched Monday for suspects behind the dramatic incident.

The four were lynched on Sunday in a dramatic incident in the Marani area after being accused of witchcraft.

Squads were sent to the area to hunt down the mob behind the lynching.

Some houses were also torched in the drama. Police discourage mob lynching and call it criminal.

More suspects are being sought over the incident which is one of many that have happened in the area.
