The appointment of nominee James Gesami as deputy governor has been approved by the Nyamira County Assembly Appointments Committee after a long tussle.

The appointments committee presented its report to the assembly on Monday in a special County assembly for approval.

All 36 MCAs voted for the approval of Gesami as the Deputy Governor.

"As the speaker of the County Assembly, I declare the approval of James Gesami as the Deputy Governor Nyamira," Speaker Moffat Teya declared.

The Appointments Committee Chairman Duke Masira who also doubles as the Majority Leader moved a procedural motion that was seconded by Minority leader and Nyansiongo MCA Dennis Kebaso.

Gesami's approval comes after the High Court dismissed a case that was filed barring his nomination and approval as Deputy Governor last month.

Kebaso said the nominee has all it entails to hold the position of Deputy Governor with the long time experience he has in several disciplines.

"Honorable Speaker, the 37 years experience by the nominee is nothing to debate about. All the requirements have been met and we do not have any reason to say anything against Gesami's appointment, " Kebaso stated.

Masira who read the committee's recommendations said they considered everything that was availed to the committee.

"Having considered the ability, experience, statutory requirements qualities of the nominee, the committee recommends that, Dr James Gesami be approved by the county assembly for Appointment as the County Deputy governor," Masira said.

Ekerenyo Ward MCA Thaddeus Nyabaro said the MCAs have no option but to support Gesami's approval since he has everything that is needed for him to be DG.

"We have no option other than to support the appointment of Gesami as Deputy Governor. All that was required has been met and therefore, we need him to work with Governor Amos Nyaribo for a better Nyamira," he said.

Nyamaiya Ward MCA Raban Masira said the focus now should be shifted to development because the decision that has been reached by the MCAs will give a way forward to the county in terms of service delivery.

Gesima MCA Charles Maroko said with the approval of Gesami, there will be no excuse as to why services will not be rendered to the residents.

Residents who were at the county assembly premises took to the streets to celebrate the long-awaited declaration.
