Nyamira County DG nominee James Gesami was on Thursday vetted by the assembly's appointment committee to await his approval after a long tussle in court.

This was the second time the nominee faced the committee for vetting.

The same committee together with the Assembly had rejected his appointment as the DG during the first vetting.

Currently, Gesami holds the position of special programs advisor in the office of Governor Amos Nyaribo.

He was handed the position by Nyaribo after his appointment was rejected by the MCAs

During his vetting on Thursday Gesami was unable to explain the contents of the recent report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC that stated he was self-employed when he was already working with the county government.

“In this report, it is indicated that you are self-employed and yet we all know you hold a position in the county government. The report is dated just a few days after you had worked for some days as a special programs advisor in the office of the governor,” said nominated Mca Fredrick Mosiori.

Gesami was also unable to explain why he did not produce his A level certificate from Shimo la Tewa where he had indicated he sat for his A level examinations.

When he presented his papers at the IEBC, he was told the other certificates were inferior and was only required to produce his bachelor's degree.

Speaker Moffat Teya who is the appointments committee chairman wanted to know whether there are any challenges, for him to get his A level certificate; something that Gesami disputed.

“There are no arrears Mr chairman. When I presented my papers to IEBC, they looked at the bachelor and the masters. They told me these other certificates are inferior to what they wanted. If you went to the University of Nairobi, you must have been selected from a particular school,” The former MP told the committee.
