Civil society organisations want the Kisumu government to provide a full report of the funds spent on UHC implementation and tacking of Covid-19.

They also wants the county to provide a report of the number of medical practitioners who have been recruited and deployed using the funds provided by the World Bank.

They further seek to have the information on all donations, grants, salary cuts for civil servants, reallocation of budgets and other sources published.

The groups, which included the Kenya Female Advisory Organisation (KEFEADO), the Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (Team) and the Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network (KELIN), said this will help provide transparency and accountability.

KEFEADO executive director Easter Achieng, who spoke on behalf of the groups, said all departments must publish the names of companies and individuals awarded any contracts related to Covid-19.

“The procurement department must publish a market price index of all essential drugs and commodities required for the management and response to UHC and Covid-19 to guide procuring entities on price ceilings and provide safeguards against inflation of prices,” she said.

Achieng further called for public participation in matters that affect residents. “Being open and transparent and involving those affected in decision-making is key to ensuring people participate in measures designed to protect their health,” Achieng, who is also a member of People's health movement Kenya, said.

Non-state actors were also urged to advocate for transparency and accountability, and protection of human rights in all UHC and COVID-19 response efforts.
