Kisii County Contractors Association has called for clearing of pending bills before awarding of new contracts.

Association chairman Wilfred Bosire and secretary general Hoffman Ondieki said they do not want the bills to accumulate further.

“We are urging the county government to pay us our pending bills before it awards new contracts. We do not want to accumulate the same,” Bosire said.

The chairman, however, said they cannot squarely blame the county government for the non-payment of the bills. They instead blamed the National Treasury for delaying the release of funds to the counties.

The two officials urged the 12-member Senate team to reach consensus on the revenue sharing formula, saying that counties are unable to offer services to the people.

“The impasse on revenue sharing formula has negatively impacted on development in the counties. We are urging the 12-member team of the Senate to reach at a consensus to enable the counties deliver services,” Bosire said.

Ondieki noted that it is now three months since the 2020-21 budget was passed, and that the counties will be forced send back to the Treasury unutilised monies.

Ondieki urged local institutions such as Kisii University, Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kisii National Polytechnic to consider giving local contractors tenders.

Bosire and Ondieki urged their members to do their job satisfactorily  to avoid queries from locals.

“I am urging our members to ensure they do standard work on projects given to them. Shoddy work will not be allowed,” Bosire said.
