Burglars broke into the residence of flamboyant Kisii politician Don Bosco Gichana's father on Monday night and carted away household items.

The thieves scaled the perimeter fence from the rear of the house.

They prepared a meal of noodles before taking with them a TV set and two gas cylinders from the house located in Mwembe, Kisii town.

Don Bosco's ailing father John Gichana was away in Kisumu for treatment when the incident occurred.

The politician's brother, Pascal Maina, told the Star at the scene they are yet to determine the motive of the incident .

"We want police first to carry out extensive investigations to unearth who these thugs were and their primary motive because as a family it appears to be beyond  mere theft," said Maina.

Don Bosco Gichana said  they are reading a political motive in the night raid.

"The incident has the hallmarks of a veiled political threat to our family but we won't be cowed," he told the Star from Nairobi.

The thieves left behind a machete and the steel rods they had used to break the doors.

Maina said they did not take other expensive items from the house.

"We thank God father was not in. We don't want to imagine what could have happened to him," Maina said.

The night guard has not been seen since the incident Maina  said.

"We are trying to probe to know if the guard who was on duty was involved because we are yet to know where he is," he said.
