The ODM Youth League aims to have 300,000 new voters register in Kisii county.

County chairman Eric Janganya said they will target youth and women.

“In Kisii, we have about 800,000 people with IDs but in the last general election we had 400,000 registered voters,” he said.

Janganya spoke on Sunday at Kenyenya playground in Bomachoge Borabu constituency during a football tournament sponsored by area ODMYL chairman Siriba Makori.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae’s wife Elizabeth was the chief guest.

“We want to use such football tournaments to mobilise youth to vote and sensitise them to the importance of participating in an electoral process,” said Janganya, who is Sonu secretary general.

He said they will use tournaments, rallies, talent search events, funerals and other gatherings to encourage people to get IDs and voter cards.

Elizabeth urged young people to run for election.

“You are always being told that you are the leaders of tomorrow. That tomorrow is now,” she said.
