Aspirants for the Kisii governor seat should prepare for a serious battle, incumbent James Ongwae has said.

He spoke on Friday in Moticho ward, South Mugirango constituency, during the burial of former councillor John Matagaro.

Area MP Manson Nyamweya had asked him to explain what he has done during the three years he has been in office.

He said the billions of shillings the county receives have not had any impact.

“Our county receives more than Sh7 billion. That is why I am asking Governor Ongwae to account for it. I will also account for my CDF funds if he wants,” Nyamweya said.

But Ongwae urged leaders to engage in “constructive and developmental politics” instead of mudslinging.

Nyamweya said he cannot build some roads because of a case filed by the Council of Governors in court.

“I am urging you to withdraw from the case to enable us to construct roads,” he said.

But Ongwae said: “[Do] not to use me as an excuse. The Council of Governors moved to court to seek clarification on roads that belong to county and national governments.”

However, Deputy Governor Joash Maangi urged leaders to stop politicking in funerals.

“We should console the bereaved families. We have the right platforms for the same,” he said.
