Dadaab leaders led by area MCA Mohamed Abdi Farah on Wednesday commended the security apparatus working in the areas for working round the clock to ensure peace and security.

The leaders who included MCAs and peace elders appreciated the dedication and commitment the security apparatus had displayed to thwart any would-be threat in the area.

Speaking after Eid prayers, MCA Farah said cases of insecurity have drastically dropped thanks to the close working relationship between the security apparatus and wananchi.

Dadaab which hosts the refugee camps has in the past experienced cases of insecurity where hundreds of people have lost their lives mostly security officers.

So bad has the situation been that vehicles avoided the Garissa-Dadaab road following a series of attacks that mainly targeted police vehicles where suspected al Shabaab militants planted IEDs in the middle of the road.

However for three months now the area has witnessed relative peace with no major incident reported.

“To all the security team in the Dadaab constituency and its environ. Your unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our community has not gone unnoticed. As we celebrate Eid al-Fitr, I want to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to each member of the security team. May this joyous occasion bring you and your loved ones happiness, peace, and prosperity,” Farah said.

“Day and night, rain or shine, you stand vigilant, protecting us from harm and keeping our neighbourhoods safe. Your professionalism, courage, and dedication to duty are truly commendable."

He also said in addition to safeguarding the community, the security apparatus has also played a vital role in fostering a sense of peace and unity among residents noting that their presence has instilled confidence and reassurance in the hearts of residents, allowing them to go about their daily lives without fear.

“I am particularly impressed by your swift response to emergencies and your proactive approach to addressing security concerns. Your quick thinking and decisive actions have undoubtedly prevented many potential incidents and safeguarded lives and property."

He further appealed to the national government to fast-track the tarmacking of the 100 km Garissa-Dadaab road

“I am honestly disturbed by the delayed tarmacking of the Dadaab-Garissa Road. The situation along this critical route has become increasingly dire, as it is laden with planted improvised explosive devices by terrorists, resulting in the loss of numerous lives, both civilian and among our brave armed forces,” he said.

He said the delay poses an imminent threat to the safety and security of the residents in the region, as well as to the effectiveness of security operations.

“I urge President William Ruto to personally intervene and prioritise the completion of this project, allocating necessary resources and coordinating efforts to ensure its timely execution. The lives of countless individuals depend on the swift and decisive action of our government, and I implore him to act swiftly to prevent any further tragedies along the Dadaab-Garissa Road,” he said.

Dadaab subcounty peace chairman Osman Ibrahim Abdi thanked the security team for remaining proactive and acting swiftly on security information they received.

"I want to sincerely thank our security personnel for doing a fantastic job in ensuring that peace and security is maintained. Many a time their good work is not recognised,” he said.
