Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali has called for unity in the county saying the county needs a united front to prosper.

Speaking during the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Moyale constituency, the governor said his administration will not discriminate against any region.

"I call upon every Marsabit resident including leaders to join hands with me and build our county. We want to lobby for mega projects to boost our region," said Governor Mohamud.

He urged leaders to set aside partisan differences and work together collaboratively for the greater good.

" Unity of purpose is key for us if we want to realise economic growth for our people. We are from different political formations but we must work together for the common good of our people," he said

The county boss said Marsabit has a huge potential that remains untapped and urged leaders to take advantage of President William Ruto's leadership and grow the region.

Governor Mohamud cautioned leaders against politics of deceit saying good leadership emphasizes peace, cohesion and unity of the people as enablers of development.

"Marsabit people did not concern themselves with parties and coalition. They were interested in the individual leaders, their capacity and their electability," he said

"Instead of being grateful to the people who elected them, some are still angry over the election of others," Governor Mohamud said.

The governor urged leaders to stop early campaigns and instead work together towards delivery of the services.

Marsabit Governor said his administration was committed towards the realization of universal Healthcare saying at least 29 per cent of the county's budget had been allocated to the sector.

He said he made significant progress in improving health infrastructure across all levels of service provision.

"My administration has prioritized substantial investment in the health sector aiming to improve access to quality healthcare of our people," said Governor Ali.

Governor who also used the occasion to officially launch the Community Health Promoters program in line with this year's theme of advancing Universal Health Coverage said his administration will distribute more Community Health Promoters kits to all units in the county.

He said the community Health promoters will contribute to the services offered at the dispensary and Health centres thus creating demand for the uptake of health services.

The kits contain essential basic medicines that the CHPs will use at the household level under the supervision of the public health officers to ensure quality services.

The county boss said his administration is working closely with the national government Ministry of Health to ensure that the community health promoters get monthly incentives on a 50-50 cost sharing between the two governments.

"The development of county Health strategy will provide the legal basis for the establishment of community health units as the key drivers of Universal Health Coverage," he said

The governor warned KRA officers based in Moyale against harassing small-scale traders in the constituency saying traders always pay their taxes.

The county boss revealed that the county government through IGAD invested Sh53 million in a partnership that aimed at strengthening the water supply in the Moyale constituency.

Deputy Governor Solomon Gubo urged security agencies to deal firmly with criminals who are terrorising residents in the Saku sub-county.

"Armed robbers are creating insecurity in the county targeting business people. They are robbing their hard-earned cash and creating an atmosphere of fear," he said

Gubo expressed fears that the escalated crime especially in the Saku constituency could destabilize the area if action was not taken immediately.

He called for the return of police reservists saying they would boost the efforts of the police in taming insecurity issues.

The deputy county boss linked power outages in the Saku sub-county as a significant factor in the town's insecurity.

"The power outages have caused significant suffering on business people and are a catalyst for increasing robbery cases," he said.

He called on residents to work closely with the county security team to weed out crimes in their mindset saying the security was a collective responsibility.

While inviting residents to attend this year's Loiyangalani cultural festival slated on 22-25 November, the Deputy Governor said the festival will promote the rich culture and unity of the county.

Marsabit County Commissioner Nobert Komora urged residents to take advantage of the el-nino rains to plant more trees to increase forest cover in the county.

He said it's time for the people to take conservation seriously to protect the environment.

Komora urged residents to be at the forefront of efforts to address desertification in the region which had been caused by years of tree cutting.

"Now that we are likely to get above-average rains, let us go out there and plant more trees as a way of combating desertification," said County Commissioner.

He said that declining forest cover had contributed to prolonged drought and water insecurity across the county, and explained that there was a direct correlation between the destruction of forests and water insecurity.

She said trees are important in attracting rainfall, restoring wildlife, improving air quality and conserving water.

Naomi said tree planting has been touted as the only major way that can effectively mitigate the severe effects of climate change.

She urged residents to register themselves as UDA members in the ongoing registration to benefit from the Kenya Kwanza government.
