Marsabit Muslims have held special prayers for rain as drought continues to ravage the region.

During the prayers referred to as Salatul Istisqa, the faithful sought intercession from Allah.

They prayed for rain and an end to drought after many years of failed rains.

“We have to turn back to our creator for his intercession at a time like this. We are suffering as a result of the failed season and severe drought ravaging the county,” sheikh Mohammed Galgallo said on Saturday.

“Oh, Allah give us rain, the rain that will benefit us and not the one that will harm us,” they prayed.

Religious leaders led by Galgallo said they had sought Allah's intervention to open the cloud and shower the region with his blessing.

“The drought has affected people and livestock. Many pastoralists lost their livestock and we are fearing for human lives,” he said

“It is for this reason that we have decided to go back to Allah and perform these special prayers.”

He urged the faithful to continue praying to God for rain, saying it is only Almighty Allah who can save lives.

Marsabit cleric Sheikh Omar urged the able to assist the less fortunate in the county, asking the faithful to continue praying.
