Garissa Township MP Aden Duale on Thursday rallied women in the constituency to support his candidature saying they have been the cornerstone of his leadership.

Addressing over 500 women drawn from all communities at his residence,  the former Majority leader thanked the women for sticking with him throughout the years.

He said that all that he had managed to achieve was a result of the support they had offered him.

He said women are known to be good grassroots mobilisers and have special skills in leading the way and marshalling supporters across the constituency.

"I want to sincerely thank you for standing with me and supporting me since I joined politics. Your unwavering support is what has made me an MP since 2007 when I joined politics. Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am deeply humbled and I don’t take it for granted,” said Duale.

Duale said he has done a lot in empowering women through the affirmative action fund.

“As am speaking to you, we have managed to empower hundreds of women through the women enterprise fund. Many have gone ahead to start-up businesses grown in leaps and bounds and in turn uplifted their families. These are some of the things that give me joy when I seat and look back,” said Duale.

Duale who will be contesting on a UDA ticket further used the opportunity to highlight some of the development projects he had helped initiate during his tenure.

He gave the example of the connection of the area to the national grid as well as the tarmacking of roads in the areas as a true testimony of his leadership.

“We all know what Garissa used to be some years back, the issue of power outages had really become a thorn in the flesh of the residents. But I pushed the national government to have Garissa town and mother neighbouring towns connected to the national grid and it happened,” he said.

In the education sector, Duale said that he had many children from less fortunate families who have managed to achieve their dreams through the CDF kitty noting that no deserving case has been left out.

“You are all my witness that the CDF kitty is one of those that are professionally managed with no nepotism or tribalism. We give all provided you are a resident of Garissa. It gives me so much pride and satisfaction when I meet young men and women who tell me that they benefited from the kitty and ended up being important people in the society,” said Duale.

Duale said the huge investment his administration has put in the education sector over the years has born fruits.

By giving the example of the national exams, he said his constituency has always led other sub-counties in the county in terms of producing the best.

“Education has been among my key priorities as my administration sought to improve infrastructure and create a conducive environment for learners to feature in the national academic space by performing well,” he said.

Duale who will be presenting his papers for clearance by the IEBC on Tuesday also used the opportunity to campaign for UDA presidential candidate William Ruto describing him as the best bet to change the economy of the country for the better.

“My appeal to you is that even as you leave here, kindly go out there and spread the Hustler gospel. The bottom-up economic model that we are pushing. This time round we have said that we want to empower and uplift those at the lower level and ensure we empower them economically,” he said.
