The last few days have been busy for Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi who was reinstated by the Court of Appeal last week.

After his reinstatement, Abdi held a rally at Orahey ground where he thanked the courts for the ruling describing it as one that was long overdue.

On Thursday the governor held his first consultative meeting that was attended by the county executives and chief officers.

During the meeting, Abdi said he had forgiven everyone and also sought forgiveness.

On Friday and Saturday, the governor met with the heads of departments in a hand-over reports ceremony.

Abdi said whatever happened was now in the past and it was time for all employees to embark on their respective roles and deliver to the people to recover the lost period due to the inconveniences.

The governor was in May last year impeached by the county assembly and the same was upheld by the Senate.

On March 9  the Appellate Court comprising Justice Wanjiru Karanja, Hannah Okwengu and Imaana Laibuta dismissed a request by Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Ali Muktar to remain in the office of the governor after the High Court quashed the impeachment of Abdi.

“I direct my executives and chief officers to ensure there is normalcy. All departments should work for the interest of the people. I pledge the best for you,” he said.

Abdi revisited the process of his removal.

He said the court said there was no public participation in his removal from office and the debate of the motion of his impeachment by the Wajir county assembly was prematurely tabled.

The Council of Governors led by its chairperson Martin Wambora, on Friday welcomed Abdi’s reinstatement.

Residents and observers will be keenly following the happenings in Wajir with a special focus on the deputy governor Ahmed Muktar to see how they will strike a working relationship going forward after months of turbulence.

Hours after the court's ruling, Muktar flanked by senior county employees said he will not be challenging the ruling.

Asked whether he will resume his role as the deputy governor, Muktar said he now has a lot of time to focus on his campaigns for the position of governor.
