Wajir Governor Ahmed Muktar has partnered with the Kenya Literature Bureau in provision ECDE and TVET learning materials.

Muktar on Monday welcomed the partnership saying that it will go a long way in improving learning at the lower levels.

The governor spoke at his office when he hosted officials from KLB led by the Northern Kenya sales and marketing representative Ali Billow.

He said a strong foundation is important for the young ones as they move to upper classes.

“I believe with this partnership in place, our pupils can look forward to a bright future, since they will have all that they require in their day to day learning.

"Quality learning and good results can only be achieved with good learning materials,” Muktar said.

Billow who presented the partnership business model to the county, said the partnership comes with goodies like capacity building trainings for ECDE teachers on the new Competency-Based Curriculum.

Last week, the governor brokered a deal with ECDE teachers who had been on strike for two weeks

Muktar said the teachers play an important role in the growth of the children by nurturing and moulding them for a better future.

He urged them to make good use of the books and other learning materials once they are made available to them.

The teachers had complained that they had been serving on contract, yet they were recruited eight years ago.

They argued that despite numerous pleas to have them employed on permanent and pensionable terms, nothing has been done.

“My administration remains committed in addressing the plight of the teachers, stabilising early learning and setting a strong base for education of our children,” the governor said.

Muktar also urged the youth to join tertiary institutions adding that the county faces a shortage of people with such skills.

“As a county, we have pumped in a substantial amount of funds to improve on the infrastructure as well equip these institutions,” he said.
