Eldas MP Adan Keynan has called on Northeastern residents and leaders to promote unity ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Keynan said the region is faced challenges that can only be addressed when leaders and residents speak in one voice.
The Jubilee Coalition Joint Parliamentary Group secretary spoke on Sunday at Boma Hotels during a funds drive to support Garse-Qoftu Islamic Madrasa and Qur'anic Tahfid Centre construction projects in Wajir
Keynan said they are committed to supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's agenda of transforming and uniting the region.
“We remain committed to promoting the existing and future progressive partnership with the President and other like-minded coalition partners in uniting the region and the country during and after the elections,” Keynan said.
He said his fellow leaders should promote the community's interest as they pursue ways to build the capacity of religious institutions to nurture future leaders and lay a strong foundation for a decent society.
“We appreciate the existence, ultimate value and the role of religious institutions in nurturing and guiding learners to be principled and aggressive Muslims who understand themselves, Keynan said.
“We will continue supporting these institutions for learners to recognise their responsibilities in family, community and society.”
Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi said as a region they cannot afford to be in opposition and urged leaders and residents to plan themselves as elections draw near because they will support a candidate who has their interests at heart.
The ceremony was attended by several leaders among them Wajir Governor Ahmed Muktar, MPs Ahmed Kolosh (Wajir West), Ahmed Bashane (Tarbaj) and deputy governor Musa Yussuf.
