Hunger victims to get steady food supply, says Eugene

Muslims will receive more rice, oil, and beans food during Ramadhan next month

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa on Tuesday assured drought victims of a steady supply of relief food.

He said the government has enough supplies to feed starving Kenyans until the rains start.

“We have enough relief supplies in our stores here in Garissa and elsewhere. We shall distribute the relief food until we are satisfied that all the drought victims are back on their feet,” Eugene said in Garissa.

The CS said the National Drought Management Authority has allocated fundsforwater trucking and to ensure relief supplies reach intended beneficiaries.

Eugene said Muslims will receive more rice, oil, and beans food during the month of Ramadhan next month.

Deputy Governor Abdi Daganesaid the pastoralist communities ahave suffered most as pasture and water sources have been depleted by the high temperatures.

He said Holugho subcounty is the worst-hit followed by Dadaab, Lagdera and Fafi.

Dagane appealed to the Devolution CS for more intervention measures that should include scaling of water trucking services to more upcoming settlements, provision of livestock feeds and the government relief food.
