Some leaders from Northeastern have faulted the replacement of Amina Mohamed with George Magoha as the Education CS.

The leaders speaking separately termed the changes made in the Cabinet by President Uhuru Kenyatta as being in bad faith.

Speaking in Wajir town on Saturday during the award of CDF bursaries amounting to Sh20 million to students, Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim said the move was an affront to the nomadic community.

Kassim is among those who protested the cancellation of the results of some students from the region. He has faulted Magoha’s leadership at the Kenya National Examination Council.

“We want to categorically state that we have not welcomed the replacement of Amina with Magoha. We all know what he did to our students. Making it worse, he (the President) has chosen not to respond to our request to have the situation corrected,” Kassim said.

He added: “You can imagine what will happen now that he has been given the entire docket to run," Kassim said.

In January, Knec cancelled the results of 3,427 students across the country. Most of them were from Northeastern.

Speaking separately, Lafey MP Abdi Mude said Amina had shown that she had the region’s education matters at heart.

“It is our hope and prayer that he won't extend his questionable actions that have ruined the lives of our children. I can't wait to see how he goes about with his work,” he said.

Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa expressed her optimism that the new Education CS would follow up on the matter of affirmative action started by Amina.

Following the acute teacher shortage, local leaders and the Education ministry under Amina considered several policy actions, including lowering entry grades to teacher training colleges for students from Northeastern.

The former CS lowered the KCSE grade of primary teacher training colleges from C– to D+. That of diploma teachers colleges was lowered to C- from C+.
