Kiraitu praises board as Meru revenue collection doubles

Meru's revenue collection for between June and December has increased by more than 100 per cent with the county collecting Sh180 million compared to Sh71 million over the same period last year.

County Revenue Board CEO John Ntuiti said staff remains dedicated to improve collection.

Governor Kiraitu Murungi has praised the board saying they did an excellent job. He gave six cows among other awards to best employees who collected the highest taxes.

Complying tax payers were also awarded. Kiraitu said taxpayers still owed the county Sh550 million in land rates and rents.

The governor said towns will get development project equivalent to taxes they generate. He promised traders a business friendly environment.

Kiraitu declared that his government is laying down measures to address legal and administrative challenges to ensure a friendly business environment in the County.

He said towns will be receiving developments equivalent to the taxes raised.
