Cracking down on traders who sell uninspected meat is a huge challenge for the government, the department of Livestock and Kenya Veterinary Board have said.
Speaking during the 72nd graduation ceremony at Meat Training Institute in Athi River, Machakos county, on Thursday, stakeholders said many residents are at risk of consuming meat unfit for human consumption.

Sixty meat inspectors and graders received certificates and diplomas.
Kenya Veterinary Board chairperson Mwenda Mbaaka said Kenyans should report suspect meat dealers to curb the menace.
He said KVB is on high alert and will ensure meat handlers are trained to maintain high standards of hygiene.
He said officials will visit slaughterhouses and inspect meat dealers’ premises.

Kenya Meat Commission managing commissioner Joseph Learamo said unskilled personnel are a major issue.
