RESIDENTS of Wajir should volunteer for monthly clean-ups of the town to create a healthy and pleasant environment for themselves and visitors, Environment chief officer Muhuba Arte has said.

Overseeing a clean-up on Saturday involving dozens of students, NGOs and county workers, he criticised residents for littering the town.

“If we keep our towns clean, we will keep the spread of cholera and other diseases at bay and save lives,” Arte said.

He called for an “ideological change” for residents to keep the town clean and improve sanitation.

Muhuba urged residents to use dustbins instead of dumping waste on the roadside.

Participants in the clean-up shovelled leaves and plastic rubbish close to a market place.

Present were Health department officials, Red Cross officials and Wajir primary and high school students.
