MEN in Embu county are increasingly abusing mentally and physically challenged children, an official has said.

Embu North deputy county commissioner Muzne Abdullatif said there are many reports of men taking advantage of mentally ill or physically handicapped children.

She said some men exploit the conditions of the children since they cannot expose them or implicate them in case they are prosecuted.

“Long custodial sentences are the only way our men, who are so senseless and cruel to the vulnerable children, can be taught a lesson,” Abdullatif said.

The administrator spoke on Tuesday in St John’s Secondary School Kavutiri, Embu North.

She was presiding over celebrations to mark the Day of the African Child on behalf of county commissioner Amos Gathecha.
