Political leaders in Northern Kenya have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to repatriate refugees camping in the region.
National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale, 22 MPs, governors and senators said it is the time for the President take a bold step and order the sending back of the refugees, who have been blamed for constant terror attacks.
The leaders were addressing the public at Garissa Primary School grounds after a peaceful demonstration following the killing of 147 people at Garissa University College on Thursday.
Duale said the United Nations should look for alternative locations for the refugees because terror activities are planned in the camps.
“We are ready to change the law in regards to repatriating
of refugees. We are telling the President northern Kenya leaders are fully supporting the government,” he said.
Garissa Governor Nathif Jama urged Muslim leaders to preach against al Shabaab.
He said leaders from the region will chart a way forward on how to tackle terror activities that have almost crippled the economy of the region.
Mandera Governor Ali Roba, who has been targeted in previous attacks, said the aim of the militants is to economically cripple Garissa, Mandera and Wajir counties.
