The wife of Machakos Governor, Lilian Nganga, has embarked on a cam- paign to promote maternal care in the county. Nganga asked pastors to announce in churches that all pregnant women are supposed to attend pre-natal clinics at least four times during their pregnancy.

“When you meet a preg- nant woman, please stop her and ask how many clinic appointments she has attended. Assist her if she needs help to attend the clinic,” she said. Nganga said the county’s 40 wards will soon have maternity wings in hos- pitals to prevent mothers from giving birth at home.

She was speaking at the Machakos Level 5 Hospital on Friday during the com- memoration of Fistula Day.

The function was at- tended by Health executive Naomi Mutie and Health chief officer Kennedy Ouma. Nganga urged partners in the drive to mobilise Fistula surgeons to hold trainings in the county on how to prevent the condi- tion.

Fistula is a condition caused by damage to the birth canal during delivery.
