Embu man commits suicide after failed bid to kill wife

A 30-year-old man committed suicide in Embu West district following a domestic quarrel. The man had unsuccessfully tried to kill his wife and daughter.

The man identified as Peter Gatugi and who from Karatina in Nyeri county, was restrained by neighbours who helped and the little girl to escape. The incident occurred at Kivunguru village on Friday.

Area assistant chief Joseph Kamongo chief said that he had been informed that the neighbours had intervened in the quarrel before managing to calm down the angry man.

The assistant chief said the woman sought refuge at a nearby Administration police post where she reported the matter about her husband’s attempt to murder her and her daughter.

Residents were shocked to find out the following morning that the man had committed suicide. Kamongo added that when the house was broken into to retrieve the body it was found that the man had smashed all the utensils.

He was found dangling from a rope tied to beams in his sitting room by the neighbors who had gone to find out if he had calm following his violent he had exhibited.

The couple's relationship relationship is said to have been troubled and the two separated for some time in the past before getting back together. His body was moved to Embu Provincial General Hospital mortuary pending burial after his family complete the preparations.

Incidents of suicides in the area have for some times been prevalent

with last year ending on December 31 with suicide of three people for unknown reasons.
