The newly appointed board chairperson of Mama Lucy Hospital Dorcas Kemunto has expressed commitment to transforming the facility into one of the best in terms of service delivery.

Kemunto was named the chair of the board on Friday vide a gazette notice by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In response to the appointment, Kemunto expressed readiness to give her best in transforming the health facility.

"I am committed to improving maternal healthcare and ensuring every mother receives the support she needs during this critical period," Kemunto said.

She added that she will work together with board members in ensuring efficiency in the delivery of service.

Kemunto's appointment comes in the wake of challenges facing the maternity wing and accident and emergency department.

The maternity wing, the heart of Mama Lucy Hospital, has been facing numerous complaints in the past.

Kemunto said her first assignment will be to restore confidence in the facility by ensuring safe deliveries and quality care for mothers and their newborns

"We have to embark on an ambitious plan to expand the maternity wing to accommodate more beds, provide better monitoring systems, and ensure the availability of skilled nurses round the clock," she said.

She pledged to provide additional training for the medical staff and introduce innovative approaches to address the challenges faced by the maternity ward.

Kemunto further recognized the pressing need to address the issues plaguing the accident and emergency department.

She acknowledged the crucial role this department played in saving lives during emergencies and the urgency to improve its efficiency.

The new chair said she will work with stakeholders in ensuring the department's performance is impressive going forward.

Kemunto has previously served as the CEO of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).

She is billed as a visionary technocrat in the administration who can take Mama Lucy to greater heights.
