Nairobi County Assembly has become the latest target of the war between the two factions of the Jubilee party.

This comes as acting secretary general Kanini Kega and secretary-general Jeremiah clash over dewhipping of MCAs aligned to the ruling party, UDA.

In a letter dated April 20, 2023, Kioni had written to Majority Whip Moses Ogeto informing him of having received information that some Jubilee legislators had been working against Azimio.

"We have information that some of our Azimio members have continued to work and vote against the Azimio coalition position including attending PG held at State house on various dates," reads the letter.

The MCAs include Nominated MCA Wanjiru Kariuki, Karura ward rep Kamau Fiu Fiu and Robert Mbatia of Kariobangi South.

"Other measures being taken by the party, to install discipline within our coalition and respect for multi-party democracy will be notified to yourself on a different date, " read the letter.

In addition to that, Kioni purportedly revoked the appointment of Karura MCA Fiu FIu as the whip of the Jubilee caucus at the assembly.

Nairobi Jubilee MCAs wanted their caucus recognized in the assembly as a result, the party elected in February appointed Karura MCA Fiu Fiu to be the Whip of its caucus.

Kioni said the MCA has been working against the position of the Azimio coalition and that of the Jubilee party.

However, in a letter dated April 24, 2023, Kega termed Kioni's communication as null and avoid.

In the letter addressed to MCA Ogeto, Kanini noted that Kioni could not speak on behalf of the Jubilee party following the judgment last week.

"This is to bring to your attention that Jeremiah Kioni is not allowed to make any official communication on behalf of Jubilee Party following the judgment of the political Parties Disputes tribunal dated April 19, 2023, which vacated conservatory orders that had stayed the resolutions of the National Executive Committee of Jubilee Party dated February 10, 2023," he said.

The former Kieni MP said the resolutions of the said NEC meeting suspended Kioni pending the exhaustion of the party's internal disputes resolutions mechanisms that includes a disciplinary process.

The letter further said NEC meeting resolved that the undersigned will act as the Secretary-General until the IDRM process is completed.

"Accordingly any communication by Kioni to your good office or to any honourable member of our party purporting to be the official position of Jubilee party will be null and void and of no consequence," Kega said.

The fate of besieged Kioni lies with the party's internal dispute resolution committee.

This is after the Political Parties Tribunal declined to quash NEC's resolution that installed EALA MP Kanini Kega as his replacement.

In its judgment delivered on April 16, the tribunal said that the notice for the National Executive Committee meeting issued on February 2 and the subsequent NEC meeting on February 10 which imposed Kega was done in accordance with the party Constitution.
