Police are investigating an incident in which the body of a 35-year-old man was found in his house after suspected poisoning by a jiko in Karen, Nairobi.

The body of Bernard Mutisya was found in the house long after he had died.

Residents had to break into his house after he failed to respond to knocks on his door.

Police said his body was found on the bed and there was a jiko with boiled soup next to it.

He had not been seen for two days, prompting his neighbours to break in and check what was happening inside.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary on Tuesday.

Police also warned against using a jiko inside a poorly ventilated house, especially during the rainy season when people use it as a source of warmth since it can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide poisoning, always referred to as ‘the silent killer’ happens when toxic odourless gases emitted from burning wood or charcoal mixes with blood and affects oxygen circulation in the body.

Meanwhile, police are investigating three cases of sudden deaths in the city.

The first victim reported to police was Eugine Ondemba, 25, who was a caretaker of a restaurant in Upper Hill area.

His body was found next to the facility generator after suspected suicide.

In Dandora, the body of a man was found on the roadside after he had been killed elsewhere and dumped there.

The man had stab wounds in the stomach and there were no bloodstains at the scene giving an indication he was killed elsewhere and dumped at the site.

And in Kayole, a four months old baby died in mysterious circumstances, police said.

The body of the infant identified as Anabel Ariana was taken to the Mama Lucy mortuary after the parents said they woke up at dawn and realised she was unresponsive.

Police said they are investigating the incident with a planned autopsy on the body.
