Police are looking for a gang that waylaid a cashier and robbed her of more than Sh1 million en route to a bank in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The woman works at a petrol station along Outering Road and was taking part of the day’s collection when she was confronted by two gunmen.

She told police she had walked down stairs at the petrol station on Monday at about 1pm when the men confronted her at gunpoint and demanded the cash.

The woman handed over the money to one of the suspects before they jumped onto a waiting motorcycle and rode off.

Police rushed to the scene after being alerted and established the gang had escaped.

They believe the gunmen had prior information on the movement of the cash and investigations have been launched into the same.

The attack comes in the wake of increased deployment of undercover detectives in the city, as police takes step to destabilise criminal gangs that regroup after general election.

There has been an increase of violent crimes in parts of the city as gangs attack for valuables and cash.

Police advise victims to cooperate with the attackers for their own safety.

Meanwhile, police and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority are investigating an incident in which a suspect died by suicide in police cells at the Juja police station, Kiambu county.

The body of Dennis Mochoge, 33 was found dangling on the window grills long after he had died.

He had been detained for stealing.

Police said he used his pair of trouser to hang himself.

The motive behind the incident is yet to be known. The body was moved to the mortuary pending further probe into the incident.

IPOA joined the probe to establish if there was any form of negligence from police authorities there.
