A 23-year-old man died after falling head-first as he alighted from a moving lorry in Kayole, Nairobi.

Joseph Gitau, who was hanging on the lorry from Njiru to Kayole,  jumped off as the vehicle slowed down but slid and landed on his head.

Witnesses said the driver of the lorry did not realise what had happened and kept on driving.

Police were called to the scene and took the body to the mortuary.

Residents said it is common practice to see people hanging on moving lorries.

Along Jogoo Road, a speeding car hit and killed a 34-year-old pedestrian near Makongeni.

Police and witnesses said Patrick Kimani was crossing the road when he was hit on Monday night. His body was removed from the scene moments after the incident.

Elsewhere, along Lang'ata Road, a female pillion passenger died after falling off a speeding motorbike on Monday morning.

Benadine Mutua was riding on the motorcycle when the rider lost control of the bike and hit a pavement.

The passenger landed on her head and died on the spot.

Police took the body to the mortuary and the injured rider to the hospital. The officers said the deceased did not have a helmet on.

Nairobi traffic police boss Joshua Omukata said they are investigating the incidents.

"We encourage pillion passengers to always wear helmets as a way of protecting themselves in case of an accident," he said.

In Lang'ata a man was found dead. The cause of death has not been established.

And in Kahawa West, a 50-year-old man was found dead after a suspected attack by unknown people. The bodies were moved to the mortuary as investigations continue.
