• Kenya has only 96 elected women out of the 1,450 wards across the country.
• Out of 85 wards, Nairobi has only five elected female MCAs.
In the August 2017 general elections, only 96 women out of the 1,450 wards were elected as Members of the County Assembly.
Despite the figure having remained low in the context of the two third constitutional threshold, the figure represents a marginal increase from 84 women MCAs elected in the 2013 General Election.
In Nairobi County, voters elected five female MCAs out of the total 85 wards in the city; two on the Orange Democratic Movement and three of Jubilee Party tickets.
1. Waithera Chege
First term elected MCA representing Nairobi South Ward ( South B), Starehe Sub county under the Jubilee Party ticket.
At the County Assembly, she serves as the Deputy Majority Whip .
2. Patriciah Mutheu
First term elected MCA who won under the Jubilee Party ticket to represent Mlango Kubwa ward, Mathare sub county.
She is the chairperson of the Nairobi County Assembly Ward Development Fund Committee
3. Millicent Mugadi
Second term MCA who represents Ziwani/Kariokor ward at the Nairobi County Assembly.
In the 2103 she won the sear under the The National Alliance (TNA ) party ticket and In 2017 with Jubilee Party ticket.
She served as Deputy Majority leader at the County Assembly from November 2019 to April 2020 and the Education Committee chairperson
4. Cecilia Ayot
Cecilia Achieng Ayot, first term ,was elected MCA of Laini Saba Ward in Kibra Sub County under the Orange Democratic Movement Party.
5. Rose Ogonda
Rose Adhiambo Ogonda was elected in Kware Ward of Embakasi South Subcounty.
The first term MCA was elected under the ODM party ticket.
