Nairobi Deputy Governor Anne Kananu has recommended residents undergo a sensitization process to properly familiarize themselves with the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

This comes as she acknowledged that many city residents are not up to date with the contents of the BBI document.

Kananu noted that sensitization will help people understand the content.

"Clearly not many people have familiarised themselves with the BBI document and We don't want propaganda on this document," she said.

"We will now ensure we embark on a serious sensitization mission in order for Nairobi residents to understand the content of the document and ensure it sails through during the referendum," Kananu said.

Already through a sensitization forum last week on BBI, Deputy Majority Whip Waithera Chege engaged with South B residents.

The residents were given hard copies of the documents and engaged with their ward rep Waithera, in a discussion on the content in the BBI.

While rallying her support for the BBI on Sunday at AIPCA church in Utawala, the Deputy Governor further noted that the document was a win for Nairobi on the Ward Development Fund and also for women leadership.

"BBI has a lot to offer especially when it comes to women leadership and County revenue distribution cake. BBI will transform this country. We should come together to ensure the document goes through at the referendum stage," Kananu added.

BBI Secretariat Co-Chair, Dennis Waweru who had accompanied the DG highlighted that BBI aims to bring economic stability where Kenyans of all walks of life will benefit.

At the same time he rubbished allegations of a rift in the BBI Secretariat  and termed it propaganda , assuring all was well.

“I am not aware of any rift within the secretariat . If there are issues, we have an internal mechanism for dealing with them,” Waweru said.

“The BBI train left the stage a long time ago. We are on course and are committed. This is the wrong time to drop the ball,” he said

The former Dagoretti Mp also expressed confidence that the BBI constitutional amendment Bill will be passed by Parliament within the next four weeks.

Nairobi County Assembly on February 18 passed the BBI bill unanimously with 114 votes.

President Uhuru Kenyatta while commending the MCA's, said Nairobi will be a huge beneficiary if the BBI bill is passed as an increase in sub-counties will bring in more funds for development.

"Our MCAs in Nairobi have the best interest at heart for their residents and that is why the BBI was passed with no opposition,' Uhuru said.

He further requested the residents to read the BBI report and get to understand the benefits Nairobi.
