Some 16,935 matatus belonging to

several saccos in Nairobi have not paid

for parking, an audit shows.

The system audit carried out last

week by the Department of Parking

Service Management revealed that

29,059 matatus access the CBD daily.

The electronic payment system run

by JamboPay also showed that only

12,124 matatus have paid for parking.

Head of parking service management

Tom Tinega said City Hall will crack down

on all matatus that have not paid.

More than 30 matatus and taxis were

impounded on Wednesday last week for

presenting fake receipts for parking.

The impounded matatus were registered

under Embassava, Kilgoris, Killeton

and Trans-safaris saccos.

“We went to the bank and realised

there was no money. They had presented

fake banking slips,” Tinega said.

On Tuesday last week, county secretary

Robert Ayisi said saccos whose

members fake parking receipts will be

banned from operating in the city.
