Man charged with trafficking bhang released on Sh200, 000 bond

A man has been released on Sh200,000 bond with the same surety or Sh100,000 cash bail for being in possession of bhang in Machakos county.

Paul Mutua Muli appeared in Kithimani Law Courts in Yatta subcounty where he pleaded not guilty to the offences leveled against him on Wednesday.

He was charged with trafficking in narcotic drugs (bhang) by storing contrary to Section 4(a) of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substance Amendment Act (1).

Muli appeared before Kithimani Law Court principal magistrate Paul Wechuli.

According to the prosecution, Muli was on December 11, 2023, at Matuu township in Yatta subcounty within Machakos County found in his house trafficking narcotic drugs (bhang) with 20 brooms, 18 rolls, 700 grams of Sh22,000 street value.

In issuing his ruling, Wechuli told Muli that he had a right to be represented by an advocate.

"The suspect has been released on a Sh200,000 bond with the same surety or Sh100,000 cash bail. He should be supplied with the witness statements," Wechuli said.

"You have a right to an advocate."

The case's mention is slated for January 4, 2024, and hearing on March 11, 2024.
