Two children have died in a house fire that occurred this morning in Mutalia, Matungulu sub-county of Machakos county.

The two children aged four years and 20 months were sleeping at the time of the incident.

The incident happened at 5:30 in the morning after a Koroboi lamp blew up spreading fire in the mabati house.

The mother had left it on and taken two other kids to school.

A neighbour narrated that the woman and her family had been given the house to live in while they keep watch on another house under construction.

"The two boys learn in a school located far away from home. She takes them to school on daily basis before taking their youngest sister to school, kindergarten," said the neighbour.

"She sustained injuries on her legs while attempting to rescue the children. She is currently receiving treatment at Kangundo level four hospital," said the government official.

He warned the locals to be careful when dealing with sources of heat that can turn tragic.

The bodies of the two girls were taken by the police and moved to Kangundo mortuary.
