Special needs student defies odds to shine in KCPE

Musyoka would like to go to Mangu High School and pursue a career in medicine

Musyoka Kings Kelvin of Kathonzweni AIC Special School was announced among the best KCPE performers by Education CS George Magoha on Monday.

The 13 -year-old with a visual impairment scored 401 marks in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam.

Musyoka would like to go to Mangu High School and pursue a career in medicine.

The pupil who spoke to the Star on phone said his friends, teachers and parents have been supporting him to attain the best.

Kathonzweni AIC Special School head teacher Benjamin Nyungu said Musyoka is a disciplined and above average pupil.

Other schools that performed well include St Brigitte Academy Kikima.

The top pupil Sandra Mutheu scored 413, Victoria Munee 407, Shirleen Ndanu 402, Samuel Kasyoki 395, Mwongeli Kiio 394 and Rose Muge 393 .

The school has a mean score of 376 from 27 pupils.

Tusunini Primary School also did well with the top pupil Nyongesa Lelety Bukosia scoring 412.

Also Mark's Muiya Mwini had 407, Kiteng'e Samuel 404, Yumbya Wambua 402 and Gakufu Wanjiku with 400.

At Baraka Benchmark Academy in Mbooni, the top candidate Brian Kwinga scored 405, Brian Maitai 402, Kyule Katumbi 392 and Muthoka Ferdinand 392.
