51 Ethiopians arrested in Machakos

51 Ethiopian immigrants have been arrested for being in the country illegally at Syokimau estate in Machakos.

The foreigners, all men, were arrested following intelligence information from members of the public on Wednesday. They are aged between 15 and 25.

The incident was reported to Syokimau police post under OB No. 20/16/03/2022 at 8pm.

“It was reported by Syokimau assistant chief David Kilonzo that there were suspected foreigners within the community," a police report seen by the Star reads in part.

"Police found 51 male Ethiopians confined in a residential house with no documents. They were all arrested and escorted to Mavoko police station where they are being held."

The foreigners were identified as Kibiru Jabebo Lenchebo, Tashele Sode, Dasta Alemis, Dameblo Ergano, Ashenaf Erisdo, Taaesgen Fikire, Samuel Germa, Tsekehani Dino, Mirhatv Sirbalo, and Labiso Medabo.

Others were Maske Melase, Dawite Birhanu,  Erobe Abebe, Kosef Halebo, Gazmen abera, Adena Samebto, Kibiris Brmanu, Endale Abera, Rajato Ebrhim, Mahamed Desala, Mislu Sharfa, Zeleke Kabemo Abu Adike and Missam Woriktimo.

Also locked up at the station are Nabtamu Dejene, Dakoro Kadir, Habetamu Lombebo, Barena Sulemo, Habitamu Kibamo, Akililis Fakisa, Wondemu Dadacho, Workina Digabo, Makibib Woide, Abi Dagnu, Tamesgen Bekele.

Chkijo Bubamo, Deginat Elinase, Adeja Jamirate, Deleje Bekele, Bonikola Wonedimu, Kaleb Lafebo, Tagennc Laliso, Samule Hule, Derexbe Adise, Tigabu Titele, Ashuro Akele, Wondimu Godiso, Anuale Abdlhe, Adeta Adimasu, Mesganis Adore and Akililu Trango.

“We also recovered 10kgs of bhang from the house,” a police officer privy to the operations said.

The scene was processed by crime scene personnel as DCI detectives attached to Mlolongo police station took over with the investigations.

Elsewhere, a man suspected to be dealing in illicit brew within Mlolongo was also arrested in a separate operation on Wednesday.

Brian Oenga, 24, was arrested in an ambush by National Government Administration officers led by Mlolongo assistant county commissioner Dennis Ong'aga, area acting chief David Kilonzo and five members of community policing.

“The chang’aa transporter has been under our radar but kept evading us," Ong'aga said.

"However, the team successfully managed to arrest the rider on transit with 79.5 litres of chang’aa."

The man, a resident of Mukuru Kwa Ruben slum in Nairobi, was arrested and his motorbike impounded.

“The supplier was confirmed to be ferrying the illicit brew from Mukuru kwa Reuben to Mlolongo, Sabaki and parts of Mlolongo phase 3 villages,” Ong'aga said.
