Northeastern, Eastern get new police commanders

The regions face various security challenges including terrorism, inter clan fighting and cattle rustling

The Northeastern region has got a new regional police commander in the changes announced by police headquarters on Friday.

Mandera police boss George Seda was promoted to Northeastern police commander. He replaces Rono Bunei who moved to Eastern in the same capacity.

Eastern police boss Ronald Opili was recalled to police headquarters at Vigilance House.

In the changes, Stephen Tanui was named as the new commander for Mandera county.

The regions face various security challenges including terrorism, inter clan fighting and cattle rustling.

Northeastern regional commissioner Nicodemus Ndalana was on January 11 moved to Harambee House and was replaced by Nairobi’s James Kianda.

Eastern’s RC Isaiah Nakoru was moved to Western in the same capacity and was replaced by Narok's county commissioner Evans Achoki on a promotional basis.

The changes were meant to enhance operations in the areas, officials said.

Meanwhile, at least 30 subcounty commanders popularly known as OCPDs were on January 27 moved in changes announced by police headquarters. 

In the changes, Central OCPD Adamson Bungei moved to Turkana Central and swapped positions with David Mburukua. 

Others include Moses Owiti (Samburu Central), Eric Yego (Narok West), Alex Rotich (Vigilance operations), Lucy Kananu (Lari), Charles Laboso (Bumula) and David Ogetii (Kisumu Central). 

Francis Gachoki was also moved to Mbalambala, Leonard Muhanda (Ainabukoi), Samuel Waweru (Mwea West), John Otieno (Kiminini), Patricia Nasio (Nambale), Joackm Mogeni (Kajiado North), Stella Jerono (Keiyo South) and Reuben Muli (Nandi North). 

Thomas Ototo was named OCPD for Turkana North, Agnes Omojong (deputy county commander for Kericho), Shadrack Ruto (Kajiado South), Francis Tumbo (Gilgil), Grace Thuo (Nyando), Walter Abondo (Nandi East), Christine Kola (Baringo Central) and Harriet Kinya (Naivasha). 

Sarah Chumo was moved to Subukia, Patrick Manyasi (Cheptais), Stephen Okal (Moiben) and Rashid Ali to Samburu Central. 

At the DCI, the head director of planning Joseph Mugwanja swapped positions with the director of forensics Nicholas Kamwende.

The head of legal unit at the DCI Amos Omuga was moved to the DCI Academy as the deputy head.

Augustine Kitonyi will be the acting head of legal unit at DCI.

The new head of Land Fraud Unit will be George Mutonya. He replaced Geoffrey Kinyua who was moved to Central region DCI offices.

The changes were announced on January 18 by DCI boss George Kinoti.

More changes are expected ahead of campaignings. 

Police headquarters said the changes are normal and aim at enhancing operations.
