Family, friends celebrate late Emmanuel Mutura’s birthday

He would have turned 20 years on December 31

Embu based University students and friends joined the family of the two slain Kianjokoma brothers to celebrate the birthday of the late Emmanuel Mutura.

Mutura was to turn 20 years on December 31.

The youths led by Embu County Comrades Association President Dennis Macharia and friends placed flowers on the graves of the two brothers who allegedly died at the hands of the police.

Macharia said it was important to join the family of Benson Ndwiga and Emmanuel Ndwiga in birthday celebrations and remember him.

“We came here to join the family and friends in celebrating the birthday of our late colleague and place flowers in their memory,” Macharia said.

Mutura was a first-year student at Don Bosco Technology Training Institute in Karen, Nairobi.

Ndwiga Kamunyoti, the father to the deceased said it was great to host a birthday celebration for his late younger son Emmanuel.

He said this has been the family trend to celebrate each member’s birthday. 

Kamunyoti said this was Emmanuel’s norm to invite colleagues and friends for his birthday celebrations. 

“I am grateful to the comrades and friends who have joined us today in celebrating the life of Emmanuel,” he said.

“If Emmanuel was alive the situation won't have been different since he used to invite friends and share a goat and feast.” 

He said Emmanuel was best in cooking and thus on his birthday he won't have missed roasted potatoes which he learnt to prepare from his mother.

Ndwiga said he wouldn’t also miss such a meal as it reminded him of his son.

Their mother Catherine Wawira was unable to speak as she still grieves her two sons.

The two brothers were last seen on August 1, after they were arrested by police for breaking the 10 pm curfew.

Their bodies were found at the Embu Level 5 morgue three days later.

Six police officers have since been arrested and the matter is on the legal corridors.
