Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has authorised that all persons with disability be exempted from paying tax and hospital consultation fees.

Njuki said the money PWDs pay for such services should be used to develop their families, educate their children and for their businesses.

The governor spoke on Monday at Kathwana.

He ordered officers in charge of special programmes to develop unique cards for PWDs in the county for them to benefit from the waiver.

“My administration will develop our own cards that will be used within the county, as they wait for the national government to act.

"In all our markets, no PWD should pay even a coin, whether they are trading or selling chicken. No one should pay anything.

"This includes consultation fess in specified hospitals as much as they don't have the county's special disability card yet,” Njuki said.

He urged the national government to improve the system of issuing secured tax exemption cards for people with disabilities to save them from the current delays that led to unnecessary suffering.

He said fraudsters have infiltrated the sector and produce fake cards to defraud with them.

Njuki said Tharaka Nithi is one of the counties in the country where the disabled people are suffering.

He said the cards should be secured to save the members from fake ones that are sometimes used to mislead government officers.

The plan excited residents who hailed him for the good initiative.
